Obituary for Addie Doretha Lane

Addie Doretha (Worthey) Lane was born February 17, 1935 in Fannin County, Texas. Addie “Doretha” went to sleep April 21, 2022 in Paris, Texas and awoke in the arms of her Savior Jesus Christ. Doretha was number four of six children born to Walter Warren Worthey and Clara Miller Crutchfield Worthey. She married Hayden Dale Lane at the Assembly of God Church in Borger, Texas on February 8, 1952. Together they had two children, Gary Dale Lane and Karen Renee Lane Sparks. After living in the Texas panhandle for several years, Doretha and Dale moved to Chickasha, Oklahoma so their son could attend Jane Brooks School for the Deaf. While residing in Chickasha, they owned and operated several successful businesses including Lane’s Construction and Lane Horse Trailers. They literally sent horse trailers all over the world, including to a Sheik in Kuwait who Dale became very good friends with.

The family attended Chickasha Free Will Baptist Church for many years where Dar would occasionally sing specials. Sunday lunch was a must with pot roast, noodles and all the trimmings and a big pitcher of sweet iced tea. Then the family and friends would gather around the piano and sing hymns of the church.

Later on in life, Dar, Dor or Addie as many people knew her by went to work for Mr. Walton. She started at Walmart in Anadarko, Oklahoma and later transferred to Paris, Texas. She worked for and retired from Walmart after thirty-one years of dedicated service. Dar was a strong Christian woman. She believed that God has a place prepared for His chosen ones and she was certainly ready to go.

She loved her Texas families as well as her Okie families. She also loved to go to Southfork, Colorado every year with her brothers and sisters and all the kinfolk. This was always the highlight of each year for 30 plus years. Now if you truly knew this woman, you knew that she was a lil stubborn. Some might say strong willed and some might say hard headed. And if she wanted to go somewhere or do something there was no way to change her mind. Dar loved her “Word Find” puzzle books and she could set for hours working them. She also loved her Sweet Iced Tea, Sprite and Snacks, namely Doritos or any kind of Chips and Chocolates. And I must not forget her Watermelon, whether in season or not! She did love her some Dairy Queen as well. Her sister Louise (Lou-Lou as we called her) took her to DQ to get a Big Messy Chocolate Dipped Cone just a few days before she passed.

As the years went by she developed several medical problems. But this strong-willed Texas lady (who still rooted for OU Sooners rather than those Texas Longhorns) would just keep fighting back. Many times the doctors would have to agree that she was as tuff as nails. She was also a cancer survivor. Dar was just a fighter. In and out of hospitals the last few years her body began to feel it. Even though she had survived lung cancer, open heart surgery and a heart valve replacement, her earthly body was getting tired. She would tell her daughter Renee “well I don’t want to die just yet, but if I do I’m ready”. So for her last remaining months, Dar just kept giving it her all. But on the morning of Thursday, April 21st, God said…”Come on home! You’ve fought the good fight, you’ve finished the race and you’ve kept the faith”!! One of the last things Renee asked her mom only two days before she passed was…”mom are you sure you are ready to go to Heaven when your time comes”? And she replied, “YES, YES, YES…POW…right up through the air” as she stretched her arm up straight with her index finger pointed straight up towards Heaven!! There was no doubt in Dar’s mind where she was going and exactly how she would get there. And that’s what happened…She went to sleep and POW she shot straight up to Heaven!! Now her son-in-law James would say that because she was so ornery up there that God had to put her in the corner for a time out! Yes this proud full blood Texas lady’s life has ended here on earth. But it’s only the beginning of her life in Heaven! Dar, Dor, Doretha or Addie…whatever she is known by in Heaven…she is no longer in any pain or no longer has to deal with any breathing problems. Because she IS NOW breathing Heavenly air!!

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, eight infants from miscarriages, her husband along with brothers Aubrey Worthey and David Worthey, sisters Margie Havins and Elwanda Blackshear, sisters-in-law Bea Worthey and brother-in-law Jimmy Havins and a host of many other loved ones gone before us.

She is survived by her son Gary Dale Lane and wife Michelle of Canton, Mississippi, daughter Karen Renee Sparks and husband James of Elgin, Oklahoma. Two granddaughters, Carmen Lane and Skylar Lane and one great grandson Liam Blackburn, all of Canton, Mississippi. One sister Louise Thomas of Sumner, Texas and a brother in law Paul David Blackshear of Tigertown, Texas. A special cousin Gary Crutchfield, who went out of his way so many times to help her. Along with many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would like to thank all the Physicians, Nurses and Healthcare Professionals in Oklahoma and Texas for their care, love and support for our mother.
