Obituary for Christine Despain

Christine Despain of Durant, Oklahoma passed from this life on Friday, October 6, 2023 at the age of 88. She was born on Saturday, January 12, 1935 in Durant, Oklahoma to Lonnie Richard and Sarah Florence (James) McDonald.

She was a longtime resident of Durant, Oklahoma. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Durant, where she also taught Sunday school and taught at First Friends.

She loved studying the bible. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lonnie Richard and Sarah Florence (James) McDonald; husbands Phillip Wigington, Charles Despain; son Steve Wigington; brother Charles McDonald and sister Laverne McDonald; grandson Christopher Welch.

Survivors include her daughter Valerie Welch and husband Danny of Durant, Oklahoma; sons Kenneth Wigington and wife Deborah of Washington State, Travis Wigington and wife Annette of Durant, Oklahoma, Randy Despain and wife Tonia of Dallas, Texas, Mike Despain and wife Linda of Los Colinas, Texas, Steve Despain of Texas; grandchildren Chuck Welch, Kyle Welch and wife Jillian, Samantha Wigington, Gina Wigington and husband Chris, Brad Wigington and wife Kayla, Amy Quarrles and husband Aaron, Travis Wigington, Scott Wigington, Phillip Wigington, Tamara Wigington, Candice Shipp and husband Morgan, Dane Despain; sisters-in-law Donnie McDonald, Joyce McDonald; special comfort companion Peaches as well as numerous great and great-great grandchildren, cousins and other extended family and friends.

A family visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00PM on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at Gordon Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Highland Cemetery in Durant, Oklahoma with Bro. Gary McNeill officiating. Grandsons Chuck Welch, Chris Wigington, Scott Wigington, Brad Wigington, Travis Wigington and Phillip Wigington will serve as pallbearers.
