Obituary for Coy Dean Simmons

Coy Dean Simmons, of Mead, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Monday, April 27, 2020 at the age of 79. He was born on Friday, August 9, 1940 in Dallas, Texas to Coy Argyle and Geraldine (Conditt) Simmons.

Coy was a longtime resident of Bryan County and was active in the Mead Church of the Christ where he was a member. He enjoyed singing, gardening, grilling outside, firing up the smoker, making people laugh and socializing with his friends and family. His passion was hard work. He was an entrepreneur and had been self-employed over the past 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents Coy Argyle and Geraldine (Conditt) Simmons; brothers Anthony, Aubrey; sister Sharon and a grandson Cameron Joel Simmons.

Survivors include his sons Bill Simmons and wife Kim of Madill, Oklahoma, Donny Simmons and wife Brenda of Mead, Oklahoma; daughter Sherri Elmore and husband James of Ardmore, Oklahoma; grandchildren Jensen Simmons of Mead, Oklahoma, Jacoby Simmons of Mead, Oklahoma, Skye Cavender of Mead, Oklahoma, Kooper Cavender of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Kurtis Elmore of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Connor Elmore of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Courtney Johnson and husband Kolby of Caddo, Oklahoma, Catie Simmons of Mead, Oklahoma, Kylee Kuykendall and husband Treven LaBlanc of Durant, Oklahoma; Aunt Normarie Sullivan and husband Cecil of Durant, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Sue Ann Simmons of Utica, Oklahoma; great-grandsons James Johnson, Jobe Johnson as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and other extended family.

Friends and family may come by the funeral home for viewing anytime from 5:00-7:00PM on Wednesday, April 29, 2020. We will limit people in the building at one time and encourage distancing and no contact for the safety of all involved.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM, Thursday, April 30, 2020 at Gordon Funeral Home and a graveside service to follow at the Silo Restland Cemetery with Bro. Logan Cates officiating.

The CDC has directed that the funeral service be limited to 10 family members. We encourage everyone to show their condolences to the family in a meaningful way other than attendance.

The family wanted to give their appreciation to all those that where involved in his care during this time of illness including the home health, hospice, assisted living and others. A special thanks to Jamie and Linda.
