Obituary for Florence Eloise Smith
Florence Eloise Smith, of Durant, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Sunday, November 17, 2019 in Durant, Oklahoma at the age of 83. She was born on Thursday, September 3, 1936 in San Bernardino, California to Hugh and Earmell Mae (Tucker) Hamill.
Florence came to Oklahoma in 1950 from San Bernardino, California. She graduated from Gore, Oklahoma High School in 1954. She enjoyed playing basketball in high school. She was the co-owner of Smithway Nursery and Bill Smith’s Termite and Pest Control. She was called “Aunt Granny”. She enjoyed quilting and she dearly loved all her babies and children.
She married William E. “Bill” Smith on Tuesday, January 4, 1955 in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her parents Hugh and Earmell Hamill; husband William E. “Bill” Smith; brothers Hugh “Ray” Hamill, Bill Hamill; sister Nina Poston.
Survivors include daughters Sherrie Ownby of Durant, Oklahoma, Cynthia Miller and husband Scott of Caddo, Oklahoma, Billie Jean Smith of Durant, Oklahoma, Donna Ellers and husband Tommy of Glendale, Arizona; sisters Melissa Brown of Columbia, Missouri, Linda Means and husband Ronnie of Ardmore, Oklahoma; brother-in-law Davis Smith and Lois of Owasso, Oklahoma; grandsons William Eddie Smith of Durant, Oklahoma, Benny Joe Ownby II and Finace’ Aduor; granddaughters Regina Clark of Durant, Oklahoma, Lindsay Travis and husband Jason of Calera, Oklahoma, Sarilyn Logan of Calera, Oklahoma; granddog Snoopie Sue of Glendale, Arizona, 7 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at the Monterey Chapel, 224 S. 9th, Durant, Oklahoma with Bro. Brent Smith officiating.
