Obituary for Glen Self

Glen Self, of Caddo, Oklahoma passed from this life on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at the age of 79 in Denison, Texas. His battle with serious illness showed his courage and strength. He was born on Monday, March 16, 1942 in Caddo, Oklahoma to Clarence Raymond and Ruby Lee (Newhouse) Self.

He was a longtime resident of Caddo, Oklahoma. He graduated from Caddo High School in 1960.

Glen married Linda Jewel Teel on March 5, 1960 in Durant, Oklahoma. She was the love of his life. Linda supported Glen all through his racing and business careers.

In the early days, they went drag racing every weekend. Glen started his own business (Self Racing Heads and Engines). He did what he loved everyday of his life with his son, grandson and Danny Smith by his side.

All would agree that Glen Self was a master of the six-cylinder engine. He won the U.S. Nationals in 1969 with his 1967 Stormin Six Camero. He and his son won again in 2016 with the Stormin Six III 1932 Bantam Altered. Glen Self is in the NHRA Hall of Fame.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence Raymond and Ruby Lee (Newhouse) Self and a sister Clariece Springer.

Survivors include his wife Linda Self of the home; son Kevin Self and wife Anita of Caddo, Oklahoma; grandson Hunter Self and wife Kylie of Caddo, Oklahoma; brothers Mack Self and wife Faye of Coleman, Oklahoma, Mike Self and wife Anna of Yukon, Oklahoma; sisters Dot Cox of Mead, Oklahoma, Ann Reeves and husband Cecil of Atoka, Oklahoma, Joan Williams and husband Anthony of Durant, Oklahoma, Regina Boehme and husband Dennis of Caddo, Oklahoma; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00PM, Monday November 1, 2021 at the Gethsemane Cemetery in Caddo, Oklahoma with Bro. Jeff Self and Bro. Anthony Williams officiating. John Mesnard, Mack Self, Danny Smith, Hunter Self, Jimmy Carrol, Johnny Rice, Mike Self, Wade Baskin, Brian Self, Faron Williamson, Stephen Glenn and Charlie Howell will serve as honorary pallbearers.
