Obituary for Johnny R. Shepherd
Johnny R. Shepherd of Durant, Oklahoma passed from this life on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at the age of 86. He was born on Sunday, February 28, 1937 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to George Rex and Hester Lee (Darby) Shepherd.
He was a longtime resident of Durant, Oklahoma. He proudly served the U.S. Army from 1960 – 1962. He then married Shirley Ann (Presley) Shepherd on April 15, 1963.
He was the owner of Texas Feed Fat in Denison, Texas. He then worked as an Emergency Management Director in Bryan County where he retired. He also worked as a contract mower for Lake Texoma Corp of Engineers.
He enjoyed the outdoors and liked to Camp, hunt and fish.
He was preceded in death by his parents George Rex and Hester Lee (Darby) Shepherd; brothers A.G., Albert, Henry; sisters Quanah, Betty, Jinnie and grandson J.P. Kennedy.
Survivors include his wife Shirley Ann (Presley) Shepherd of Durant, Oklahoma; daughters Johnna Jenkins of Edmond, Oklahoma, Cindy Kennedy of Calera, Oklahoma; grandsons Heath Jenkins of Edmond, Oklahoma, Brice Jenkins of Caddo, Oklahoma and Eric Kennedy of Calera, Oklahoma as well as other extended family and friends.
A family visitation was held from 5:00 – 6:00PM on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Gordon Funeral Home.
A family graveside service was held at 1:00PM on Friday, January 19, 2024 at Highland Cemetery in Durant, Oklahoma with Johnna Jenkins and John Freeman officiating.
