Obituary for Mary Cooper

Mary Cooper, of Durant, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Saturday, January 25, 2020 in Durant, Oklahoma at the age of 81. She was born on Wednesday, May 25, 1938 in Mead, Oklahoma to John Calvin and Willie Maude (Arney) Bowers.

Mary greatly enjoyed quilting, cooking, gardening and reading. She graduated from Mead High School and was very active in staying in touch with her classmates over the years. She was passionate about caring for others as she sent hundreds of cards of encouragement to her friends and family. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.

She was a member of the Durant Church of Christ.

She married B.J. “Bob” Cooper on June 30, 1962 in Mead, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her parents John Calvin and Willie Maude (Arney) Bowers; husband Bob Cooper; sister Billie Jo VanZandt, nephew Alan VanZandt and sons-in-law Ron Cross and Ed Stair.

Survivors include her son Corey Cooper and wife Stephanie of Mead, Oklahoma; daughters Sue Stair of Durant, Oklahoma, Tammy Cross of Durant, Oklahoma, Sheila Garner of Durant, Oklahoma; grandsons Shawn Hurst, Shane Hurst and wife Kari, Gregory Cross and wife Hillary, Bradley Cross, Brandon Cooper and wife Brittany; granddaughters Shawna Cross, Sydney Sumner; great grandchildren Preston, Landon, Rafen, Sheriden, Cooper, Burkley, Harlow, Rhylen, Savannah, Laynie, Sadie, Mason and Aly as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.

A come and go family visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Home, 221 N. 3rd in Durant, Oklahoma.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at 10:00 AM at the Durant Church of Christ in Durant, Oklahoma with Bro. John Curtis and Bro. Layne Heitz officiating. Graveside services will be held at the Highland Cemetery in Durant.

Greg Cross, Bradley Cross, Shane Hurst, Brandon Cooper, Chris Sumner and Derik Delozier will be serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be A.G. Alexander, James Coats, Charles Villines and Casey Roberts.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Durant Church of Christ in Durant, Oklahoma.
