Obituary for Wyndel Roy Crites

Wyndel Roy Crites, age 76, was born on March 24, 1947 to Earl Kenneth Crites and Mabel Odessa (Holland) Crites. He passed away on October 28, 2023 in Greenville, Texas.

Wyndel served in the Air Force and was a Vietnam Veteran. He loved woodworking and was a talented landscape painter. He owned a construction company for many years. He wrote a couple of books that the family hopes to get published.

In his later years he answered the call to the ministry. He spent many hours a day studying and read the Bible through six times that first year. He loved the gospel and the truth of God’s Word. He had the opportunity to preach in Germany and spent a month there helping a missionary friend. He was a member of Heartland Apostolic Church in Commerce, Texas where his son, Ben Crites, pastored.

Wyndel is proceeded in death by his parents, Earl and Mable Crites; stepmother Mary Crites; sons David and Daniel Crites; siblings Mona Osborne, Martha Mercer, and Kenneth Crites.

Wyndel is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary (Fertner) Crites of Campell, Texas; daughters Deborah Gray and husband Kelly of Whitesboro, Texas, Rebecca Crites of Campbell, Texas; sons Stephen Crites of Broadview, Montana, Jonathan Crites of Texas, Benjamin Crites and wife Gina of Commerce, Texas. Grandchildren Jeremiah and Zach Crites, Rachelle Polk; Justin, Cody, Anthony and Tori Crites; Sammy Gray; Lydia Crites. Great grandchildren Tyler, Rowan, Emory, Waylon, Judah and Denver. Siblings Kay Connor and husband Narvel of Fresno, California; Sandra Crites of SeaTac, Washington; Dennis Crites and wife Donna of Caney, Oklahoma; Loralea Gordon and husband Joe of Boswell, Oklahoma. Along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 4:00PM on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at Stewart Gammon Cemetery in Caney, Oklahoma with his son-in-law, Pastor Kelly Gray, officiating. There will be a meal at Voca Baptist Church in Caney, Oklahoma immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations for funeral costs may be made to Gordon Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma.
